CHARTS: Australia’s population is shifting

At around 1.5%, Australia’s current population growth rate is above the world rate of about 1.2%, and among the highest in the OECD. Net international migration comprised about 55% of Australia’s population growth in 2015-16. Natural increase – that’s births minus deaths – makes up the rest.
