Global Study reveals Australia as top destination for British Expats

Australia has retained its number one ranking in the NatWest International Personal Banking ‘Quality of Life’ Report for British expatriates, with 80% of migrants reporting an improved quality of life in Australia since moving down under.

According to the survey, the satisfaction appears to extend to almost all aspects of Australian living, with expatriates citing better work/life balance (71%), weather (82%), and health (73%) as key reasons for making the move.

Australia’s financial stability and ability to purchase property was also a popular lure, with 71% of respondents owning property in Australia, compared with the global expat average of 33%.

Australia has also lasted over 21 years without a recession, a remarkable feat for an economically developed nation.

Head of NatWest International Personal Banking, Dave Isley, says the repeat upper echelon ranking has affirmed Australia as a prime destination.

“It seems life down under really is the cream of the crop according to this year’s NatWest IPB Quality of Life Index,” he says.

“Continual sunshine coupled with a strong economic stability make Australia the perfect destination for Brits to set up home.

“Factors such as an efficient health care system, low crime rates, a clean environment, good education, civic engagement, and a longer-than-average life expectancy also factored in the high scoring.”
