The balance of family test requires you to have equal to or a greater number of children living permanently in Australia than any other country or countries overseas.

The Australian Government have set up a number of requirements you must meet to be able to migrate under the skilled migration program. The essential criteria that must be met for applicants to be successful include:
- Have an occupation listed on the Skilled Occupation list
- Have your skills assessed by a relevant skills assessment body to make sure that they are at a specific level required for that particular occupation.
- You must ne under 45 years of age
- Have completed a competent level of English (at least a score of 6 each in IELTS or equivalent English test)
- You must have completed university, trade, or work experience relevant to your nominated occupation
